Coaches thoughts (23rd Sep)

Coach Cliff gives his thoughts on a busy weekend

Hi Chieftains Fans,

Thanks for your support over the weekend, It’s always tough to follow the team when it’s 2 games on the road back to back but the support both days, particularly on Saturday was amazing, so thanks again for that.

It was a bit of a weekend of ups and downs, I left the rink on Saturday thoroughly pleased with what I had seen from the boys and thought we were getting close to where we needed to be against a very well put together Invicta team, then on Sunday we struggled to find a way to get the puck in the net and I left the rink scratching my head and wondering what we need to do to score more goals - a problem I never saw coming before the season started.

We generated a lot of shots but it’s important to think about where those shots come from as in the 60 shots we had on goal only a few times did we really trouble Ben Clarke-Leach who had a very solid game between the pipes. On the other hand frustration probably led to the amount of odd man rushes we gave up and Swindon were clinical with the few quality chances they created.

So it’s back to the drawing board this week in training as we look to generate more high quality chances in the coming games, we have a week off now which I’m not sure is great timing for us but we will still keep working hard in practice this week and next and be ready to play Streatham a week on Sunday.

Thanks for the constant support, see you soon.

Cliff.
