Coaches thoughts (7th Oct)

Coach Cliff gives his thoughts on a superb win against Streatham

Hi Chieftains Fans,

I hope you are all having a nice week on the back of our result on Sunday night.

Until Sunday I felt like we hadn’t really got going, the season has had a funny start to it with 1 game weekends and a weekend off, but now we can get stuck into things with a bit more flow and consistency.  The game against Streatham came at a good time for us, we have played (and lost to) a couple of teams who we were disappointed to lose to in the first few weekends of the season, and there’s no better way to get back on the horse than to play against a top end team and be forced into a situation where we have to show up and have to give a 60 minute performance.

The boys definitely delivered what was needed, certainly the best game we have played this season and in my opinion one of the best games we have played for a while.  It wasn’t necessarily a great result because of the score line or the opponents, but because it was a game where we had to do a lot of the little things right, dig in, and ride our luck at times to see out the game and get a result.  There was stand out performances from all over the team and I felt it was important to some of the newer players to get that victory against a top end team under their belt in a Chieftains shirt.

We move on now to Cardiff where we will face the Fire on Sunday night, a team we performed well against last season, but certainly can’t overlook especially on the road on a Sunday night, we will be looking to follow up on a good weekend with another strong performance.

Thanks for coming out on Sunday and packing the rink, see you all soon.

Cliff.
