Coaches thoughts (14th Oct)

Coach Cliff gives his thoughts on our away game to Cardiff Fire

Hi Chieftains Fans,

I hope you’re all good and having a good week, definitely feels like winter is on its way now so no better time to be in the ice rink.

Just the one game last weekend as we travelled over to Wales to play the Cardiff Fire for the first time this season.  Cardiff are always a tough one to crack in their own building and Sunday was no exception to that. We started really brightly, looking like we were going to score on every shift, but we were actually in quite a tight game for quite a long time. The game stuck at 3-2 for a long time, and we even had a scoreless second period and whilst we never felt at risk, there were parts of the second and third before we scored our 4th goal that Cardiff most definitely could have tied the game, however we held firm and then finished the game how we started it with 3 goals in the last 5 minutes or so to finish up with a 6-2 win.

A win is a win and we will always take them, however we do need to be more clinical in closing games out as 1 goal leads are so fragile, anything can happen to turn that into a tie, but we saw it out and eventually our pressure paid off to make the score comfortable.

This weekend we travel to Slough in the challenge cup, our first time of running into them this season, before returning home to face Invicta on Sunday in the league.  2 games that will both test us and that we need to be ready and switched on for.

Thanks for your support, especially those of you who braved the trip over the Severn bridge last weekend, it was great to see those of you who made that journey late on a Sunday night.

See you at the rink,

Cliff.
