Coaches thoughts
Coach Cliff gives his latest thoughts…
Hi Chieftains fans,
Firstly I would like to say thanks for being a part of the pre match ceremony on Sunday where we remembered Adam Johnson following his tragic passing, I felt it was the right way to remember him and pay our respects, I’m sure we will all continue to have Adam, his family and his friends in our thoughts throughout our lives and time involved in the game.
I have to say the result on Sunday was tough to take, I felt the first period we were excellent and despite Streatham getting back into the game in the second, we were still right there with them going into the third. Ultimately we rode Jordan too hard in the second and he kept us in it, but then we slipped back into bad habits that were hurting us right at the start of the season, lost discipline and Streatham jumped on that and took the game away from us, we had turned a big corner with this aspect of our game in recent weeks and we must get back to that immediately, we can’t allow other teams to take us away from our game plan or take our minds off what’s important to us as a group, unfortunately we allowed that on Sunday and got what we deserved.
This weekend we have 2 quite different but tough tests, Invicta beat us in their rink early on in the season, a game where I felt we could have got something if we’d played for the full 60 minutes, but we didn’t start until late on and just ran out of time towards the end. The Dynamos results have been a bit up and down, we will need to be at our best in all departments to make sure we take the points. On Sunday we head to Oxford, they will be a different proposition to the team we played at home early on in the season, their results have got better and their rink is hard to play in for visiting teams, we will worry about them after the final buzzer goes on Saturday, I know it’s a cliche but it really is, and has to be, 1 game at a time.
Thanks a lot for reading and of course your continued support, see you at the rink,
Cliff.
