Coaches thoughts (21st Oct)

Coach Cliff gives his thoughts on our our double win weekend!

Hi Chieftains Fans,

I hope you are all having a good week following our double win weekend, Monday mornings are certainly a lot easier when you have achieved maximum points particularly against 2 good teams.

On Saturday we travelled to Slough to meet them for the first time this season, it was a Challenge Cup game which gave us a chance to have a look at them after a long time of not facing off against each other.  The game started frenetically with the Jets racing to a 2-0 lead before we had really started playing, but we got a bit of control back in the game and went in to the first break 2-1 down.  From the start of the 2nd period on, the game became quite broken with lots of penalties being called and lots of delays to faceoffs etc. I am not sure what the point or the aim of that was but it did give us a chance to rest up a bit against the longer bench and younger legs of the Jets so can’t complain too much.  The referee had a tough job to do and a lot to call, but this seemed to escalate the emotions of our opponents, and for the most part we were able to keep our discipline in check.  We came away with a 4-2 win which was a great result in their building and one we can look to build on when we meet again in the league.

On Sunday we faced Invicta for the second time this season, this time in the league.  The Dynamos came a little short benched and I don’t know if this played into the overall atmosphere, but the whole game looked, felt and sounded a little flat, at least for the first 2 periods.  In the third we seemed to get going a little and put some more scores on the board, to end up with a 6-1 win.  The game certainly wasn’t a masterpiece or one for the purists, but a win is a win and we take it and move on.

This Sunday we travel back to Gillingham to face the Dynamos once again, it’s a tough  rink to go to so we know we will have to be at our best to make sure we bring the points back home with us.

Thanks for all the support on both days last weekend, see you at the rink.

Cliff.
